Bangles are also an important part of jewellery as earrings and chains. All types of bangles are worn by women in pairs, with one or bunch of bangles in both hands. There are many types of bangles in India such as gold, metal, glass, silver, plastic, platinum and wood. Gold bangles are the most expensive ones so first bangles were made from metal. To look more attractive Indian women started wearing gold and glass bangles in combination, instead of wearing only gold bangles. These bangles are smooth with some texture or set with stones. They are worn in groups, so any arm movement that you make will create pleasant sounds. In traditional functions like marriage glass bangles are mostly preferred. Firstly we talked about the cut of the stone. Now finding a good quality bright green tourmaline with this cut is not impossible to find but can be tricky so we decided that custom cutting was the way forward. We custom cut the green tourmaline from a larger cushion stone to create the look. We combined the chequer board facetted cut on top but with a more square proportioned shape rather than oval. The lapidaries squared up the proportions and then facetted the top of the stone. This creating a square cushion shape with a facetted top! Donna felt a straight sided square stone would be a little harsh so decided that she would like to have the stone with softened corners. The initial stone was 1.72cts and ended up at 1.05ct. After being cut gemstone it is difficult. We searched for a green tourmaline of the right colour that could be cut to shape. The twist ring is simple in style holds the tourmaline for a modern design. A diamond is a form of carbon that was created deep within the core of the earth more than 3 billion years ago and brought to the surface by volcanic eruption. In diamond, each carbon atom is bonded to four other carbon atoms in a tetrahedral structure, like a pyramid. Each link or bond is the same length, and the tetrahedral formation is therefore completely regular. Theoretically a perfect diamond crystal could be composed of one giant molecule of carbon. After the magma cooled, it solidified into kimberlite, where the precious rough diamond is still found today. It is the strength and regularity of this bonding which makes diamond very hard, non-volatile and resistant to chemical attack. |
